1.The world's largest test of AIDS vaccine is being hailed as a breakthrough because it's the first time an experimental vaccine has prevented infection with the virus. Researchers in Thailand say the vaccine cuts the risk of being infected with HIV by almost a third.

2.President Barack Obama becomes the first US President to chair a summit-level meeting of the UN Security Council today. A unanimous vote is expected on a call for a global reduction in nuclear weapons. From the UN, the president travels to Pittsburgh for the start of the G20 summit.

3.Authorities in Kentucky are investigating whether a census worker's job may have contributed to his death. Bill Sparkman was found hanged from a tree, the word "fed" scrawled across his chest. The FBI is now investigating whether Sparkman was a victim of anti-government sentiment.

4.Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is expected to announce an interim successor to Senator Ted Kennedy today. The temp will serve in the Senate until Massachusetts voters elect a permanent replacement in January. Senator Kennedy's sons have pushed for the governor to appoint former Democratic Party Chairman Paul Kirk.
