Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are in Turkey to mount an improbable push for a cease-fire in Syria. Their visit to Ankara comes a day after President Trump suggested the U.S. has no stake in defending Kurdish fighters once allied against the Islamic State group.
U.S. ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland is set to testify before House lawmakers conducting an impeachment inquiry into President Trump. Sondland is expected to say he was merely repeating President Trump's reassurances when he told another envoy there was no quid pro quo in the Trump administration's dealings with Ukraine.
